    What does APPETD do?

    Established in 1997, APPETD is the national body representing the interests of private providers of ETD in South Africa. It has come to be recognised as an ethical body that works toward establishing and maintaining the highest standards of education and training throughout the industry. Formed by APCSA, APDEC, ATP and INPROV, the Association provides several chambers to cater for the diverse interests and needs of its members: face-to-face, distance, training, ABET, Early Childhood Development (ECD) provider institutions.

    Membership:

    • APPETD has about 600 reputable members nationally who provide the full scope of education and training to over 600 000 students a year.
    • As a member of the representative, national body of private providers, your voice will be heard and your needs will be voiced where it matters.

    APPETD is committed to:

    • Ensuring that its members maintain the high standards that are comparable to outcomes for all sectors of education and training.
    • Ensuring that users of all private institutions are receiving the best possible education and training in their chosen field;
    • Ensuring that employers recognise that a qualification awarded by an APPETD member provides them with competent personnel;
    • Ensuring that members run their institutions according to the Code of Ethics which governs the Association;
    • Ensuring that the Association itself markets its standards and ethics to all audiences including prospective students;
    • Ensuring that the Executive Committee of APPETD is elected annually from a body of top decision makers from South Africa’s leading private providers;
    • Ensuring that its members maintain the high standards that are comparable to outcomes for all sectors of education and training.

    APPETD is represented on:

    • the National Skills Authority (NSA) and representation on the ETQA that is responsible for quality assurance of your organisation;
    • the HEQC, the accrediting body for higher education providers;
    • Umalusi, the accrediting body for general and further education providers;
    • several SETAs, NSBs, SGBs and many other important bodies that affect providers.

    APPETD is your:

    • lobbying voice in the generation of standards for private providers of education and training through our representation on SAQA, its NSBs and SGBs;
    • link with information on legislation and industry trends.

    APPETD also offers you:

    • promotions and events that are targeted at prospective employer bodies and students;
    • an annual conference with key speakers who address topics of relevance to providers of education and training;
    • workshops where topical or urgent issues, like legislation, are discussed by professionals in their fields of expertise;
    • the opportunity to network with other providers around South Africa.

    Benefits of APPETD membership:

    • Receiving definitive information regarding regulatory developments that affect providers;
    • Formal opportunity to contribute to comment on new legislation and regulations;
    • Direct assistance or advice with accreditation and registration matters;
    • Access to assistance with the implementation of Quality Management Systems;
    • When deemed appropriate, personal representation of the provider at DoE, CHE, SAQA, SETAs and other regulatory bodies;
    • Alternative dispute resolution;
    • Educational and information workshop;
    • Opportunities to network with other providers offering complimentary services;
    • Opportunity to appear on a recommended provider list sent to employers and SETAs
    • Members are encouraged to display the APPETD logo on their promotional material and stationery.

    As a member, your credibility is enhanced because disreputable institutions are not admitted to membership of the Association.

    The members are able to work together as common voice to assist one another with the rapid changes that are taking place within the education and training arena in South Africa.
